Order and Chaos Online is an incredible game that is going to get better over time. Having a WoW clone that is portable is incredibly enticing, but there is a major issue; Order and Chaos online is only playable over Wi-fi. The strange part is that the game uses at most 200 kb/s which is far less than even the slowest of 3G connections. To be fair latency over 3g is an issue so I imagine Gameloft didn’t want the connection issues to make people angry about their gameplay, but it seems shortsighted because what makes this game great is its portability. If we have to play this at home why not just play World of Warcraft? Luckily there are a few ways to get this game going over wifi and we will dive into them all below.

Step 1: Jailbreak

Note: All advise given here is just that and is used at ones own discretion. This site and its author are in no way liable for outcomes of following this guide. (although Jailbreaking is legal in the US and can always be safely rolled back to a pre-jailbreak state)

To play Order & Chaos over 3G, Jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad is required. (if you have both you can purchase the tethering plan for your phone to let the iPad connect to it and access the game, but it is far less enjoyable and cost a lot per month). I will not go into the details of how to Jailbreak here, because there are a ton of sources online, but I will link you to the guide site I always have followed as well as mention that the best Jailbreak tool (debatable) I have ever used is Redsn0w. It seems to me the cleanest Jailbreak software and I have never had any issues. Remember you should NEVER pay to jailbreak. If someone is asking for money it is a scam.

Note: As of this writing (June 5th 2011) Jailbreaking is available on the every iPhone and the iPad 1 only. iPad 2 JB is on its way, but sadly not yet available. (MyWi is a good option to use on your iPhone to play O & C on your iPad2)

How to Jailbreak (Trusted Site)

Step 2: Open Cydia

Cydia is the Jailbreak equivalent to the Apple App Store. You use it to download all the Jailbreak only apps to your device. You pay for the software by linking your google or facebook account to paypal or amazon so it is totally safe and secure. This is a multi million dollar a year software so you can have faith in their security precautions.

 

Step 3: Download 3G Unrestrictor (3.99 USD)

Once you have Cydia set up you go to the search tab and search for 3g unrestrictor. Once you search it should pop up immediately. It is a paid for app so the title is blue color to indicate it is for purchase. Once you make your purchase it will install and require a respring of your device (this is normal and you will get used to doing it after many Jailbreak app installations).

Note: I realize there are ways to pirate this software using additional sources in Cydia, but I will not explain how to as it is important to support developers that let this be possible. As it is they are writing for the much smaller userbase that is the jailbreak community who for the most part likely pirate on average more than those that do not Jailbreak.

Step 4: 3G Unrestrictor

Once you launch 3G unrestrictor (from your home screen) it will bring up a list of auto enabled apps. It is a very useful program beyond playing O & C over 3G, because it lets you do things like download larger apps or movies over a 3G connection instead of the automatic 20 MB limit. In order to Add Order & Chaos to the list of apps it tricks into working over 3G you hit the Edit button in the upper left-hand corner, followed by the + button that appears on the top right hand corner of the screen. Now instead of searching for Order and Chaos you need to instead search for the term MMORPGUK. For whatever reason this is the machine name that Gameloft chose to call O & C, but you will recognize it by the lovely lady elf icon. Once you select it you hit the Done button and you are good to go!

Step 5: Play Order and Chaos Online over 3G!

It is that easy. Simply launch Order and Chaos from the homescreen and the game will launch just like you’re on wifi. The tweak is totally seamless and will not affect your game-play over Wi-Fi. Now you can play in the car, on a train, on a boat, wherever you want.
